Meet the Team – Partners

Iain Carpenter

Iain Carpenter MA VetMB MRCVS

Iain graduated from Cambridge University in 1981. He worked at mixed practices in Newbury, Cheshire and the Cotswolds before joining the practice in 1987 and becoming a partner in 1989. He has been involved in all aspects of mixed practice but is now particularly busy with the farm animal side with an emphasis on fertility work. He also has an interest in equine stud medicine and is an official Joint Measurement Board measurer. Iain’s interests outside of veterinary work include his lifelong love of sailing, ballroom dancing, his dogs, photography, skiing and walking... to name just a few!

Stephen Matthew

Stephen Matthew BVSc MRCVS

Steve qualified from Liverpool University in 1984. His first job as a new graduate was here with the practice in Market Harborough where he worked for 2 ½ years (having seen practice here as a student and coming from a local dairy farm). He spent a period of time travelling, including a spell working as a vet in Australia. This was followed by locum work at various practices throughout the UK. Stephen rejoined the practice as an assistant on the retirement of Roger Fox and became a partner at the same time as Tim Murphy. Steve is one of our leading farm vets, but is also highly experienced in small animal and equine work.

Tim Murphy

Tim Murphy BVetMed MRCVS

Tim qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1990 and joined the practice here in Market Harborough in 1991. Since becoming a partner in 1996 Tim has continued to develop the small animal side of the practice, including the creation of the new, state-of-the-art small animal clinic. Tim acknowledges the huge advances in pet medicine that have occurred in recent years and keeps up to date with all the latest developments. He enjoys the daily variety of cases but gets the most pleasure from following the lives of his patients from their very first visit through to their senior years.

John Abbott

John Abbott BVM&S Cert(Int Med) Dipl ECEIM MRCVS

Qualifying from Edinburgh University in 1999, John’s veterinary career began in a Lanarkshire mixed practice. From there, John then went to Glasgow University Veterinary School working on various specialisms at the equine hospital. It was at Glasgow that John gained the coveted Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Equine Internal Medicine. Moving to the Midlands he has spent time in equine practices in Warwickshire and Rutland. In 2005, by examination and by the recent publication of his research into equine clinical parasitology, John attained the Diploma of the European College of Internal Medicine. This Diploma is recognised as the highest accolade of its type. John is particularly interested in internal medicine, lameness diagnostics and stud medicine (including embryo transfer).
